Material Guide
Our oak products include both raw oak and oak veneer. Each version is extremely strong, hence its use in our indoor furniture ranges. Raw oak designs are made using kiln dried oak in Hungary. The material selected is rustic, with some visible knots. To clean, we recommend wiping with a damp cloth. Water, wine and oil will mark oak, so we recommend applying a Hard-Wax Oil, which adds a level of stain protection.
Although our wood has been kiln dried, it’s important to ensure that all new pieces of furniture are not placed within one metre of a radiator/heat source. This may cause the material to shrink - or even crack - as it expands. Such changes will not affect the durability or lifespan of your furniture, it simply illustrates that wood is a natural material. A light matt oil finish has been added to items such as our trays and table tops, giving them a level of protection that makes them more practical for their intended use.
Our teak is well seasoned, naturally aged and inherently rustic in finish. The timber is mixed with responsibly sourced (SVLK certified) newer teak, to aid construction. It is very durable in a UK climate and will not shrink, move or crack due to the low-level moisture. Every piece is finished with a wax seal in a rich honey shade, which will fade over time to a beautiful silver grey.
To maintain and protect the wood we recommend using a natural teak oil or teak shield, reapplied annually. Water, wine and oil will stain teak and hot items should be placed on a trivet or coaster. To ensure longevity, we recommend storing outdoor products under cover during the winter months.
Used in our lighting ranges, solid raw brass does not feature any lacquer or sealing coat. The finish will naturally dull and darken with time and may eventually display the brass patina known as Verdigris, which is green.
This natural aging process was the intention for this product. If you wish to retain a more polished brass appearance, this can be achieved by occasionally applying a good quality metal polish or wadding, buffing it for a bright, shiny brass finish.
