Read Megan Robson’s three top tips for creating the ultimate seascape sanctuary.
Hibernation is on everyone’s minds as we cosy up and keep the chills at bay with winter warming heroes. This week we grabbed a cuppa with Megan Robson from the beautifully curated @kitandco_, who talked us through her style tips for creating a relaxing retreat that’s fit for snuggling. Living in East Lothian, her warm and welcoming coastal abode is elegantly infused with bright and breezy tonal touches; together they create the ultimate seascape sanctuary.
Coveting her aesthetic? Follow these 3 steps:
1. Accessorise with trusty tools
Long, chilly days here on the coast offer the perfect excuse to hunker down at home and get toasty next to a roaring fire. I love adding extra comfort to my living space at this time of year and the beautiful range of fireside accessories from the Garden Trading Company encapsulate everything I look for. Effortlessly stylish without being fussy, they are always my go-to brand for completing any look and every piece cultivates that sense of resting and recharging at home. Once the fire’s roaring nicely - courtesy of my Match Box(!) - the Filkins Fireside Tool Set keeps the flames flickering. I love its lovely minimalist style; finished in black it blends in seamlessly and is classically simple, featuring a rounded base and balled top. Keeping my log burner in good health, you’ll also find my Fireside Bucket; a practical and stylish necessity.
2. Play with textures
Natural pared back textures add warmth and authenticity, whilst soft linen in earthy hues of sand dune and sailcloth indulges in the serene charm of coastal-inspired interiors. During winter, I like to feed the senses with tactile layers to create a beachside palette with a cosy atmosphere as it’s perfect for amplifying my enjoyment of the season. Our seaside open plan kitchen is very beachy in feel; I love to layer lots of natural textures like raw wood, seagrass and rattan to create a relaxed, homely, lived in home. In keeping with this style, my Log Basket is a timeless design, with a simple rope detail. Featuring seafaring elements, this eye-catching piece recreates the allure of a classic shoreline.
3. Turn the Tide…
No sea view? No problem: you don’t have to be situated on a shoreline to bring beachcomber vibes to your home. You can subtly transform your interiors with traditional - yet timeless - coastal touches, such as marine-inspired soft furnishings in soothing shades of blue and nautical lighting designs. My flooring in the kitchen is Limestone Parquet and is a combination of soft and serene muted tones, with a natural riven face which gives the appearance of a time-worn country house. I love how the pieces I've chosen look perfectly at home, almost like they've always belonged here. I couldn't be happier.
