Have S'mores Fun with Our Sweet and Savoury Recipes
15th Sep 2019
Let's face it, we are all big kids at heart. And even though your mum always told you not to play with your food, there's something undeniably enjoyable about food that has a little bit of extra fun involved.
That's why we love s'mores. Whether it's warm or cool outside and we have even the smallest reason to spend time together, we like to revisit our childhood and relive those Brownie and Scout days once more.
So when we found ourselves gathered round the fire pit at a recent GTHQ BBQ the challenge began to come up with the best s'mores combination for Autumn.
Here were the two winning recipes: one sweet, one savoury for you to try at home.
Camembert, Bacon & Maple Syrup S'Mores
If you go gooey at just the mention of cheese, this savoury s'mores recipe will melt your heart.
For each savoury s'more:
- 2 squares of multi-grain crackers (we used Millers Harvest Three-Seed Crackers)
- 1 slice of streaky bacon (cooked to your liking)
- 1 square of camembert (cut as thickly or thinly as you )
- Maple syrup
- A square of foil big enough to securely wrap the s'more and hold its contents securely together
Now stack it:
1. Lie your foil square flat on the table and place your bottom cracker in position
2. Add a strip of bacon, folded in half
3. Layer the camembert on top of the bacon
4. Add a gentle (or generous) drizzle of maple syrup
5. Finish with the second cracker
6. Fold the foil around the stack to create a parcel
7. Place on a grill until the cheese is gooey and the s'more holds together nicely.
8. Now time to enjoy!
Salted Caramel and Cinnamon S'mores
If sweetness is your weakness, than this sweeter recipe is sure to be a treat.
For each sweet s'more:
- 2 stroopwaffles
- 1 giant marshmallow (cut in half)
- Salted caramel spread
- Ground cinnamon
- A square of foil big enough to securely wrap the s'more and hold its contents securely together
Now stack it:
1. Lie your foil square flat on the table and place your bottom biscuit in position
2. Spread salted caramel on the stroopwaffle (as much or as little as you fancy)
3. Add one half of a giant marshmallow, sliced lengthways
4. Give a sprinkle of ground cinnamon to taste
5. Add an additional layer of salted caramel if you wish (warning: extra gooey alert)
6. Complete with the second stroopwaffle
7. Fold the foil around the stack to create a parcel
8. Place on a grill until the marshmallow is gooey and the s'more holds together nicely
9. And now, time to enjoy!
