Hot Spiced Apple Juice Recipe
4th Nov 2019
As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, there’s nothing quite like a warm, spiced apple drink to capture the essence of autumn in the UK. This family-friendly alternative to mulled wine combines fragrant spices with the natural sweetness of apples, offering a comforting way to chase away the chill. Whether enjoyed by a roaring fire or shared with friends during a festive gathering, a hot spiced apple drink brings a taste of comfort to every occasion.
Follow these simple steps to make the perfect welcome home after a chilly winter’s walk. (Oh, and if you want to add a little rum for the grown-ups, we promise it’s an excellent idea.)
You will need
- 1Litre of Fresh Apple Juice
- 1 tbsp of Demerera Sugar
- 1 Large Orange
- 2 Cinnamon Sticks
- 3 Cloves
- 3 Star Anise
- 5 Peppercorns
- 5 Cardamon Pods (Crushed)
- 12 All Spice Berries
Method
1. Toast the spices in a medium-sized pan over a medium heat until the fragrance releases.
2. Meanwhile, peel the orange taking care to remove any pith which adds unwanted bitterness.
3. Add the apple juice, sugar and orange peel to the pan and bring to a boil.
4. Reduce the heat to a gentle simmer and allow to cook for 20 minutes, allowing aromas to rise.
5. Serve in mugs with a slice of orange and stick of cinnamon (optional), taking care to sieve any small spices when serving to children.
