Mother’s Day Makes | Gifts from the Heart
10th Mar 2023
Nothing says you care more than a homemade gift. If you’re looking to craft something thoughtful in time for Mother’s Day, a wreath for the front door would be the perfect statement piece. Go on, surprise her…
To get started you’ll need:
- Our Cromwell or Farringdon metal wreath
- A bunch of dried flowers/small branches, the more imperfect the better.
- Secateurs
- Scissors
- Florist wire
- Florist tape
- A length of ribbon
To begin crafting...
- Start by positioning your main branch. If you’re using more than one, it’s a good idea to select a few featuring leaves or seed heads, so they can be tied together securely with florist wire to create a strong base.
- Begin to layer up, adding more of your flowers or branches to your main pieces, focusing on placing your bursts of colour evenly.
- Once you’re happy with the overall look of your main structure, wrap florist wire around its base several times and secure the ends with florist tape to avoid any sharp edges.
- Now add in any remaining flowers and seed heads, slotting them into the wire along the base of your bunch. Fill any gaps, focusing on blending hues that sit well together. Don’t worry about it appearing too perfect; a more haphazard approach adds character and ensures that each wreath looks less ‘uniform’ and is genuinely unique.
- Repeat steps 2-4 to create a second bunch. Once this is completed, use florist tape or wire to tie the two bunches together in the centre and then secure this complete floral display to your wreath hoop of choice.
- Finish by tying your length of ribbon into a bow, making sure that it completely covers the centre point of where your bunches meet, hiding any of the wire. You may want to use a little tape on the reverse, to stop it slipping.
- Hang your wreath in position, step back and review your handy work, before gifting it to that special someone to enjoy throughout the season.
