Top Picks from the Autumn/Winter Range
10th Sep 2021
As we launch the first pieces in our Autumn/Winter collection for 2021, we caught up with Senior Buyer Claire Wilks to discover more about this season’s new additions to the Garden Trading Catalogue.
1. What pieces are you most excited about launching in our AW21 drop?
One of the standout pieces for me is the new full length Hambledon Mirror, which is designed to simply lean against the wall. I love its chunky - yet subtle - curved frame in raw oak. It’s a great choice if you’re looking for a subtle statement piece that instantly gives a room an easy style update; brilliant for a bedroom, hallway or boot room.
Secondly – it’s got to be our Christmas collection! I can’t fail to get excited about festive decorations and this year’s pieces are sure to conjure up a real sense of nostalgia. We’re welcoming keepsakes that include new ceramic trees and stars, plus glass and paper decorations in jewel and spice tones – in a variety of sizes - which promise to make a big impact if you’re looking to create a really memorable display.
2. What can we expect to see that’s new and different to any collections we’ve launched before?
This season we welcome Easy fit shades, a range that we’ve not covered to date. I love these; it’s great to be able to introduce a range which offers an electrician-free alternative to pendant lighting. The shades that join this season’s collection are real statement pieces crafted in Metal, Glass and Rattan. They can be installed in just a couple of minutes, instantly updating the look and feel of a room.
This autumn we’ve also increased our offering when it comes to products that are crafted in much deeper, cocooning colours. We’ve also extended our range of materials; the introduction of rich walnut, marble and mirrored products will breathe new life into the Garden Trading Catalogue.
3. What would you buy from the this new collection and why?
This one’s easy; I’ve already got a few pieces on my shopping list! First up has to be a Marlborough Locker – I love the new Fresh Lily White colourway we’re launching it in this season. It has a clean, vintage locker feel and the two internal shelves really maximise its internal space, making it ideal for storing books and folders and keeping my desk clutter-free!
Next on my list is the new Embossed Star Door Mat. It’s incredibly durable and the subtle star feature is perfect as we step into the new season. I really like the way the understated design blends easily with any colour scheme, particularly as I’m still deciding on a paint colour for my hallway walls!
Statement furniture pieces are definitely my thing and the Oxford Coffee Table is going to add a sleek accent to my living room. I really like tables that have something different about them; this one’s crossed legs are a real feature - plus its practical black marble table top makes it perfect for hosting many cups of tea – and cleaning up any spillages easily!
Finally - it’s got to be the Mayfield plant pot. Greenery is a big feature in my home and I really like creating displays with pots that come in an array of different textures. I’ve been looking for a design like the Mayfield for quite some time. Its organic shape is handmade from natural rattan strips and it has form yet an effortless style about it - which is something I’ve struggled to find anywhere else. Handily, it’s also fully lined which gives me peace of mind as it avoids leakages.
4. What is the overarching theme of this collection and where has it taken inspiration from?
Our main focus was to build on what we know our customer loves and to keep our core values alive. Autumn/Winter 2021 is all about good quality, functional and stylish products that bring something a little bit different to living spaces. This collection takes inspiration from the curves and contours of organic shapes and irregular forms found in nature. We’ve been conscious of creating pieces that embody the pursuit of calmer living and I think we’ve achieved that with new colourways and textures that haven’t been seen in Garden Trading’s catalogue before now. Reclaimed and locally sourced materials such as wood, plus sustainably sourced new materials like wool all add a cosy dynamic as we head into cooler months. I can’t wait to see our customers enjoying them!
